2020 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab

2020 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab  The Superman of Super Duties!

By Charles Donaldson

Do you remember when trucks were built to simply haul items and their cabs were filled with just the basic comfort equipment? Well, in the past 10 years or so, we have seen dramatic changes in the overall price of trucks, exterior designs, and especially with the availability of high-end tech, and comfort interior features. My test vehicle was the 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty 4×4 Crew Cab Platinum edition. Whenever we see the word “Platinum” on a Ford vehicle, you can feel secure in knowing that you will be driving in style. For me, I look forward to the massaging seats! Well, despite my cheap thrills, the 2020 F250 Super Duty is a lot more than just the Platinum packaging of worldly features, it is one of the most capable trucks on the market.

Pricing and Trims
The 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty is available in three cab configurations: Regular, Super Cab, and Crew Cab. For this article, we will be focusing on the Crew Cab. The F250 Super Duty Crew Cab comes in the following trim levels: XL Crew Cab short bed (SB) RWD ($37,625), XLT Crew Cab SB RWD ($43,310), Lariat Crew Cab SB RWD ($49,260), King Ranch Crew Cab SB RWD ($57,835), Platinum Crew Cab SB 4WD ($66,225), and Limited Crew Cab SB 4WD ($83,930). In one of my past lives, I was a partner in a company called IntelliChoice, where one of my responsibilities included understanding, and in some cases (as with all American made trucks), trying to make sense of their ordering guides. These guides helped us to develop a database of vehicle pricing and option configuration, eventually determining the ownership cost of passenger cars, trucks, and SUV’s. What I learned from the start, is that American trucks have hundreds of options, packages, groups, and variations so that pricing can be a nightmare. Because of this, listed above is the base model for each trim! Note: prices subject to change.

What’s New for 2020?
The 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty gets a face lift, new engine option and a new off-road package to help it battle with new competition coming from Ram and General Motors. Here are some of the changes over the 2019 model year: Bold new black wheels and 35-inch off-road tires are now part of the Tremor Off-Road package. The cabin on the Limited trim Highland Tan upholstery replaces Camelback. New paint colors have been added to the option list including Iconic Silver and Velocity Blue, while Magma Red and Ingot Sliver have been dismissed. Drive assist upgrades includes enhanced automatic high beams that are now standard on all models, and lane-keeping alert is included on all trims except the XL. An all-new Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature has been added. The XL does receive the SYNC infotainment system as standard while the other trims are equipped with the SYNC 3. The biggest change is the all-new 7.3-liter V8 engine option and an all-new 10-speed heavy duty automatic transmission.

Interior Highpoints
As noted above, my test vehicle included the well-equipped Platinum edition. All trims, except for the XL, receive the 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system. Personally, I feel this is a big truck and deserves at least a 10 to 12-inch screen. I mean, lets make a statement! With that said, the screen operated fine, but I found that the voice recognition when making a call performed smoother on my 2016 Ford Edge.  The interior is clean and masculine with dedicated angles, chrome accents and soft touch points. The center armrest compartment was large enough to store iPads and some laptops. The back seat has an abundance of space where three lumber jacks would feel cozy and comfortable.

The leather seats in my test vehicle were complimented with ventilated and heated 10-way adjustable seats, plus a massage feature that caresses your entire backside. The F250 does stand tall and the optional powered running boards (I would suggest— a must have), offered a great assist to entering and exiting the vehicle. Due to the size of the F250, the 360-degree view cameras – including the ability to turn on just the front camera – made parking a breeze. The Super Duty includes an all-new feature – the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature that simplifies backing up a boat or trailer. The driver uses a knob on the dash instead of the steering wheel to maneuver the trailer when backing up. You want the trailer to go right then you turn the knob to the right – same for going left. Very Cool!

Exterior Highlights
The exterior of the 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab is robust, durable, and substantial. It is a manly truck that will also be appealing to women who like a self-assured design.  It sits tall and conveys clean lines of vision. The grille is massive and hugged on all four corners by LED lights. The tailgate has an available pull-out step to assist the climb into the truck bed. My vehicle had a sprayed-on liner to protect the floor, sides and tailgate, plus lockable tie-downs.

Performance Specs
New for 2020 is the 7.3-liter gasoline V8 engine packing 430 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6.2-liter V8 is standard on the 2020 models and delivers 385 horses and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. For max power, Ford offers a 6.7-liter Power Stroke Diesel V8 (a $10,495 option) with 475 horsepower and a whopping 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque. All engines are mated to a new TorqShift, 10-speed automatic transmission.

Cool Features:

  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist (optional)
  • Powered Running Boards (optional)
  • 360-Degree View Cameras (optional)

Safety & Integrity
Here are some of the Safety features on the 2020 Ford F25 Super Duty: AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™), Belt-Minder®, driver and passenger frontal airbag, passenger side deactivation switch, individual tire pressure monitoring system, rear view camera, Safety Canopy® System (incl. side-curtain airbags), SecuriLock® Passive Anti-Theft System, SOS Post-Crash Alert System™.

In Summary – The Ford F-series has been the best-selling vehicle in the USA for more than four decades and the 2020 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab will help keep the crown on the king.  The 2020 F250 Super Duty has more power for towing and a wealth of driver assistance and technology features that truly facilitate driving such a large vehicle. Its competition like the Ram HD and the Silverado HD are close on the heels of the F250 Super Duty, but Ford is dedicated to ensuring the F-series continues to be the best-selling vehicle for future decades. Let’s see what happens!
